Bratkartoffeln / Home fries

Making Bratkartoffeln with the Germany cuisine touch. I learned this dish from my mother in-law. I love this dish when I was home in Germany. It is pretty easy to prepare and stuff our stomach as well.

The main ingredients:

500 gr potatoes
50 gr chopped onions
2-3 eggs
1 tsp Salt
¼ tsp Pepper
¼ tsp Chili powder

3 tbsp Cooking oil

Method:
1. In a pot, boil the potatoes with peel in enough water (1,5 liter). Cook it until it is well cooked. Use the knife to check the doneness (if it is easy to stick the knife into the boiled potatoes, it means the potatoes is soft enough).

2. Drain out the water and let the potatoes cool down before peel them.

3. Peel the potatoes and slice it into quarter / ring pieces / as your preference.

4. In a non-stick pan, heat the cooking oil and place in chopped onions and sliced potatoes. Stir-fry them on medium heat until it is golden brown and soft. It takes minimum 10-15 minutes.

5. Season the potatoes with salt, pepper and chili powder.

6. There are two options for cooking the eggs: First, you may add into the potatoes and stir fry it together after the potatoes are well cooked. Second, you may cook it separately as your preference (scrambled or sunny side up or omelet)

7. If you like to have bacon on the bratkartoffeln. you may pan fry it together with the potatoes. It gives extra flavor to the bratkartoffeln.

8. Serve your bratkartoffeln hot with any sauce: tomato ketchup, mayonaise, yogurt chutney.

9. In this dish, I made yogurt chutney: mix the yogurt with salt, pepper, chili powder and coriander powder. It gave freshness to the bratkartoffeln.

He is the one introducing me different kind of breads in this world. I am borned in Indonesia, asian root.. What I know about bread.. it is just a simple toast bread and different kind of rolls. As I work in the hotel industry, I see many more types of breads. I start to love eating more breads.. Short stories.. After marriage, I start to learn cooking and baking with my mother in law. I start to love it, it is not easy but I have to learn it. There is no elevator to success. Because of my husband job, on July 2015 we moved to Accra, west Africa. Here it was very difficult to get good crusty bread. Then he came out with ideas why don't you learn to bake bread while I did not work in the mean time.
